Otoplasty (Ear Pinning)

What is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty, or “ear pinning”, is a procedure to reduce the appearance of ears that are prominent or stick out, or change the shape and size of the ears.

This is commonly done in childhood or teenage years, but many people decide to have an otoplasty as an adult.

Otoplasty Surgery

Surgery is done with you asleep under general anesthetic.  This involves making an incision behind the ear, and molding or tightening the connective tissue, called cartilage, with stitches.  This brings the ears closer to the head and reduces a prominent looking appearance.

Other techniques can be used to reduce the size of the earlobe.

A large bandage is wrapped around the head and stays on for a few days to mold things into place.
